چکیده
Abstract Can the main methods of social welfare analysis be extended to cover multiple species? Following a non-anthropocentric approach, we examine pros and cons various objective subjective well-being comparisons across species. We argue against normalizing by specific capacities but in favor taking account individual preferences specializations. While many conceptual practical difficulties remain, it appears possible develop for assessment collective multi-species communities ecosystems.

Toward a Theory of Child Well - Being
Assuring the well-being of children has emerged over the past several decades as an important goal for health and social policymakers. Although the concept of child well-being has been operationalized and measured in different ways by different child-serving entities, there are few unifying theories that could undergird and inform these various conceptual and measurement efforts. متن کاملToward National Well-Being Accounts
Economists have traditionally eschewed direct measures of well-being on methodological grounds: the private nature of experience and the discomfort of making interpersonal comparisons. Instead, income is often used as a proxy for opportunities and well-being. If people are not fully rational, however, their choices will not necessarily maximize their experienced utility, and increasing their op...
متن کاملRole of rainwater harvesting for improving the human well-being and ecosystem services
Ecosystem services are fundamental for human well-being and are the basis of rural livelihoods, particularly for poor people. Rainwater harvesting can serve as an opportunity to enhance ecosystem productivity, thereby improving livelihoods, human well-being, and economies. Rainwater harvesting has been shown to create synergies between landscape management and human well-being. These synergi...
متن کاملA Network Based Theory of Health Systems and Cycles of Well-being
There are two dominant approaches to describe and understand the anatomy of complete health and well-being systems internationally. Yet, neither approach has been able to either predict or explain occasional but dramatic crises in health and well-being systems around the world and in developed emerging market or developing country contexts. As the impacts of such events can be measured not simp...
متن کاملToward a Theory for Well-Guided Search
A game learner’s experience is no more than the nodes it encoumers in the search space. For a challenging game, only a small fraction of that space can ever be visited. People’s ability to learn to play difficult games well is a clear indication that not all nodes are equally relevant to learning. There are, it is argued here, key nodes particularly important to the development of expertise, an...
